What car detailing costs in south-east Melbourne
The short answer
Detailing prices in south-east Melbourne are driven by two things and almost nothing else: the size of the vehicle, and how much preparation the paint needs. Suburb barely matters. A hand wash is priced per package per vehicle size; an interior detail and a cut and polish are priced per vehicle size; and a ceramic coating cannot be honestly priced from a menu at all, because most of its cost is the paint correction underneath it. Every fixed-scope price we charge is published in full below, includes GST, and is the same number that hangs on the board in the bay.
Why so few detailers publish a price
If you have searched for detailing in this area you will have noticed how much of it is "request a quote". There are two honest reasons for that and one dishonest one.
The honest reasons: paint correction and coating prices genuinely depend on the condition of the car, and a mobile operator cannot know what they are driving to. The dishonest one is that a hidden price is easier to raise once you are standing there with your keys in someone else's hand.
Our position is the middle one. Anything with a fixed scope — every wash package, every interior service, every extra — is priced publicly, by size, in advance. Anything that genuinely depends on the paint gets a free inspection and a written quote before you commit. Nothing gets quoted on the spot from memory.
What drives the price of a wash
Vehicle size, and how much of the interior is included. Those are the only two variables. A large SUV has roughly double the surface area of a small hatch and takes proportionally longer, which is why every package is priced across three sizes rather than sold as one number with an asterisk.

What about ceramic coating?
A coating is the one service that cannot be honestly priced from a menu, because most of the labour is in preparing and correcting the paint underneath it — and that depends entirely on the car in front of you. Anyone advertising a single flat coating price is either building a large margin in to cover the worst case, or planning to raise it when they see the car.
We inspect the paint free, explain what a coating will and will not do, and give you a written price before you commit.
